The country of Cambodia is the home of the magnificent
splendor of the ninth and thirteenth century Khmer temples,
the tropical islands with only perhaps a beach-side
hut and the unexplored adventures of the northern forests.
Apart from the natural beauty the festivals in Cambodia
which are clear reflection of the culture of Cambodia
are also great crowd-pullers for everyone.
Festivals in Cambodia:
You will find that the festivals in Cambodia are clear
reflections of the concepts of Buddhism, Hinduism as
well as the royal cultures. The festivals in Cambodia
are the times during which people rejoice and many people
flock to the city to witness the grand fireworks displays
which usually accompany the festivals.
Water Festival:
The water festival is celebrated for three days and
starts with the last full moon day in October or the
beginning of November. The people stream in to the banks
of the Tonle Sap and the Mekong River to watch hundreds
of brightly colored boats with over fifty paddlers battling
among themselves for the top honors.
Pchum Ben:
The Pchum Ben is the most culturally and religiously
significant event of the year and is celebrated in September.
The Pchum Ben festival of souls is primarily about blessing
the souls of ancestors, relatives, and friends who have
passed away.
Khmer New Year's Day:
The Khmer New year's Day is celebrated at the same
time as the Thai New Year all over the country and this
marks the turn of the year based on the ancient Khmer
calendar and also marks the end of the harvest done
during the year.
Angkor Festival:
The Angkor Festival is a showcase of performing arts
with Angkor Wat as a backdrop. Performers from all over
Asia attend this festival performing great epic stories
from myths and legends, including the Ramayana, with
their own national dance costumes and musical and rhythmic
interpretations.

out the year like the Royal Ploughing day, Independence
